Galway wedding video-Derek and Barbara.
Derek and Barbara’s wedding is a day I’ve being looking forward to for quite some time. It was another Wild Atlantic Way wedding, this time just outside the beautiful town of Clifden in a hidden place called Ballyconeely. What’s not to look forward to, beautiful rugged scenery and with white sandy beaches, this place has it all.
There was also my home town connection, Sligo. As a kid I went to school with Derek’s best man and brother Alan and spent many an evening playing in the Loughlin household. I remember it was always time to go home once the passing cars had their lights on, this was always a trigger to get home before dark which was about a 5minute cycle on my bmx. It’s funny the small things you remember as a kid. Alan is now living in Australia with a beautiful family. It was great to have a catch up with him; it’s so easy to lose contact with people over the years with everybody taking different paths in life.
I decided to make the trip to Clifden Friday evening so I could hit the ground running Saturday morning. I stayed in a nice homely B&B just a mile down the road from Barbara’s house where I would start shooting their Galway wedding video the following morning capturing the usual morning prep for the day that lies ahead.
The morning of the wedding had a very relaxed atmosphere which is always great, the hair and make-up was well under way so I knew there was never going to be any last minute rush. I got to capture Barbara opening her card from Derek which is always a bonus for me. It’s for moments like this I remember the reason my style is in the background, capturing events candidly as they happen rather that setting up unnecessary awkward posed shots. There’s never going to be a take 2 for something like this.
After a relaxed stress free morning it was off to the church for Derek and Barbara’s ceremony. There were lots of familiar faces from Sligo which was nice and Michelle Lally the singer was set up and ready to go, I’ve met Michelle at several weddings previously and she is one of the top wedding singers in the country.
After a nice and relaxed Ceremony with the kiss sealed it was time to make our way for the photo/video shoot with the new Mr and Mrs Loughlin. Derek and Barbara had picked out a beautiful white sandy beach just down the road. Ballyconnnely is historically famous for the first transatlantic wireless message all the way from South America. The internet is something we all take for granted nowadays and this place is where it all started to happen. Also not to forget the first transatlantic flight from Newfoundland to a bog just two miles up the road. These two massive breakthroughs would forever change the way we communicate and also travel to visit our friends and family all over the world.
The Ballyconnely peninsula showcases the Wild Atlantic Way at its best and has the most tranquil un-spoilt beaches you have ever seen. It made a beautiful backdrop for Derek and Barbara’s Galway wedding video. After this it was a quick stop in a little park in Aughterard and then on to the house of love where it all began where they both met in their college years. It was nice being there for this and no doubt it brought back that nostalgic feeling on their big day.
From the white sandy shores of Ballyconnely to the sunny Salthill this was truly a day to remember. Thank you to Barbara and Derek for giving me the opportunity to Share your big day.
Photographer on the day was The great Lisa Hynes photography. Ive worked with Lisa before and its always a pleasure.
